Lord of the travel AP Assignment One of the main purposes William Golding constructed Lord of the Flies was to reflect on the representation of the destruction he witnessed during population War II. The pessimistic diction in chapter four contributes to the ruinous and savage tone, which is critical to Golding achieving his over totally purpose. The diction Golding uses helps the reader acclaim to conclusion that without a stable civilization people make relaxed their morals and therefore cause destruction to others and their surroundings. Golding uses the boys and the island that they are stranded on to represent the destruction of World War II. In chapter four one of the main symbols Golding uses is the burning out of the taper fire. Once the fire burns out the boys gentlen all their connection to civilization, similar to war. In war the troops ordinarily get disconnected from society. Golding demonstrates this by describing the fire as, a tight little knot on the horizon, uncoiling slowly, (Golding 66). The fire is so most-valuable that Simon he becomes frantic and yells, Ralph-please! Is there signal, (Golding 67). Without the fire the boys have no way of getting rescued and are stranded on the island for a longer time.
