The ACLU is a Campaign against Racial Profiling fights law enforcement and private security practices that disproportionately taper people of color for investigation and enforcement. We represent individuals who have been victims of racial profiling by airlines, police, and government agencies. Our work also encompasses major(ip) initiatives in public education and advocacy, including the creation of essential resources, lobbying for the race of data dupeion and anti-profiling legislation, and litigation of airline and highway profiling cases.
Racial profiling is everywhere in the world in this illustration of racial profiling I researched a dedicate other than the five boroughs I am familiar with, Maryland. On February 2, 2010 the ACLU fought to eliminate the racial profiling practices of the Maryland State Police. In 1993, the ACLU brought a class-action lawsuit against the Maryland State Police (MSP) on behalf of Robert L. Wilkins, an African American attorney who was stopped, detained and searched by the MSP for no plain reason. There was documentation to show that MSP illegally butt jointed African-American motorists for stops and searches along Marylands highways.
The parties settled and agreed to collect data on traffic stops and searches and take measures to preclude racial profiling. Two years later that MSP was continuing to tar hasten non-white motorists for traffic stops and searches.
In 1998, based on licence showing a continuing pattern and practice of contrast by MSP troopers, the ACLU, from the request of the Maryland NAACP, filed another lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. They entered into a consent find that obligated MSP to take a number of steps to cost concerns raised in the lawsuit.
