Pablo Neruda was an amazingly prolific poet who has stirred a lot of lives all over the world. As eccentric of my research for this paper, I went to the Shoreline library and requested just just about every discussion on Neruda. As a result, I have so many books stacked up in my office that I can barely get around! I was able to get a video on Neruda, a cassette with him class period selected poems, his memoirs, biographies, the text of his Nobel Prize speech, a young-adult get word book on his life, just about every book he has written (45), many books written about him, and the soundtrack for the celluloid Il Postino that features 13 of his poems read by different celebrities. Although Nerudas poetry had the greatest influence in Latin America, he truly was an international poet.
I thought the explanation of how the soundtrack for Il Postino came about was reflective of the power of Nerudas poetry for so many different people:
