Jac Fitz-enz was born and raised in Aurora, Illinois, and graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelors degree in political science. later on he was discharged from the military (where he worked as a naval intelligence officer), he moved to California and worked a variety of line jobs, including sales. In 1968, he returned to college to acquire a masters degree in organizational dialogue from San Francisco State.



Fitz-enz accepted his first human resource (HR) position in the training department of Wells Fargo Bank. The personnel department was inhabit mostly with bankers that failed at banking. Management didnt know where to launch the bankers but decided the personnel department was a locating where the damage they could do would be minimized. Fitz-enz was angry and began his fight to prove the value of people - this is where it all began.
In 1974, he odd Wells Fargo to work at Imperial Bank, where he would at the same time complete his doctorate in organizational communication at the University of Southern California.
